IT Engineer (First IT Hire)
IT
United States
We're hiring our first dedicated IT Engineer. IT keeps Rivet running — making sure every employee can do their best work without friction. As our first IT hire, you'll own the day-to-day IT experience end-to-end: support, onboarding, device management, identity, and the automation that keeps it all scalable as we grow.
This isn't a role where you follow rigid scripts. You'll be trusted to use your judgment, build our IT foundation from the ground up, and shape how IT operations work here for years to come.
What You'll Do
Shape Our IT Strategy
Bring strong, well-reasoned opinions on IT tooling — evaluate whether our current MDM, identity, and ticketing platforms are the right ones, and make the case when they're not
Understand operational maturity and right-size solutions to where we are — know when a lightweight process beats an enterprise-grade one
Help set priorities for the IT function: what we build now, what we defer, and what we buy vs. automate
Contribute to the standards and policies (device, access, security) we'll scale with, in partnership with Security and leadership
Help drive AI enablement across the company — identify where AI tools fit into employee workflows and support their rollout
End-User Support
Triage and resolve issues across hardware, software, networking, accounts, and our core SaaS platforms — via our ticketing system and Slack
Troubleshoot macOS and Windows device issues, including configuration profiles and policy enforcement
Serve as the escalation point for issues requiring cross-team coordination
Employee Lifecycle & Access Management
Own onboarding and offboarding end-to-end: hardware procurement, device preparation, shipping logistics, account provisioning, and access changes
Administer identity and access management — SSO, application integrations, provisioning, and access reviews
Device Fleet Management
Maintain and secure our fleet of macOS and Windows devices using MDM, ensuring devices stay compliant, updated, and reliable
Design and improve zero-touch provisioning workflows so a new laptop arrives secure, configured, and ready to work
Operational Improvement
Develop a deep understanding of how our teams actually work — spend time embedded with our tax team, learn their workflows and tools firsthand, and find the friction points that slow them down
Turn those observations into improvements: better tooling, scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python), and AI-enabled workflows that make our tax team measurably more effective
Treat recurring support requests as signals — fix the root cause, not just the ticket
Document what you build — runbooks and how-to guides that let the rest of the company self-serve
You May Be a Good Fit If You
Have 3–5 years of hands-on IT experience, ideally in a fast-paced or high-growth environment
Have demonstrated experience supporting both macOS and Windows endpoints
Have experience with Google Workspace and Slack administration
Understand identity and access fundamentals — SSO, MFA, directory services
Are familiar with MDM platforms and endpoint management concepts
Have experience with scripting (PowerShell, Bash, or Python) for automation
Have experience diagnosing remote desktop and virtual desktop performance issues (RDP, VDI, Citrix, AVD, or similar)
Have deep user empathy — you understand the person behind the ticket and design solutions around how people actually work
Are an excellent communicator who genuinely enjoys helping people solve problems
Take ownership of problems and follow through until they're resolved
Are organized enough to manage competing priorities without things falling through the cracks
Strong Candidates May Also
Have been an early or solo IT hire before and built processes from scratch
Be familiar with zero-trust security concepts and endpoint security tooling
Have experience with networking fundamentals — DNS, DHCP, VPNs
Have led IT projects beyond day-to-day support (migrations, tool rollouts, process redesigns)
Have a strong opinion on strategy for AI enablement across an organization
Have GRC experience — e.g., supporting SOC 2 compliance, audit evidence collection, or control implementation
What Makes This Role Unique
You'll have real ownership from day one — shaping our tooling, our processes, and the employee experience for the whole company. As we scale, this role scales with you — into deeper systems administration, security, or IT leadership.
