Strategy & Ops Lead/GM

About Joyful Health

Building the financial operating system for healthcare, and bringing the joy back to healthcare by fixing the financial chaos behind it.
The healthcare payment system is a complex and inefficient maze - healthcare practices leave $125 billion in revenue uncollected each year, lost in the chaos of fragmented financial data, manual workflows, and opaque payer systems. This financial uncertainty leaves practices struggling to stay afloat, while valuable revenue slips through the cracks.
Joyful Health is building the AI-powered financial operating system for healthcare practices. Our mission is to bring the joy back to running a private practice by simplifying financial operations so providers can focus on patient care. We spent 10 months working as fractional CFOs for a dozen practices, doing this work side by side with providers as we developed our product.
We just closed a funding round led by world-class investors and angels including the founders of MongoDB & KAYAK.
We have an enormous opportunity in front of us. The broken healthcare payment ecosystem impacts practices of all sizes, and the opportunity to make a real difference is massive. If you’re passionate about empowering medical practices and excited to tackle one of the most important (& challenging!) problems in healthcare, we’d love to meet you. The Role

Role Description

We're looking for a Strategy & Ops Lead/GM to drive operational excellence across Joyful Health, with a particular focus on scaling our revenue recovery services business. This would be our first business hire.
As the GM of our services business and leader of company-wide operations, you'll build the operational foundation that enables our growth. You'll own the P&L of our revenue recovery service line while establishing the systems, processes, and metrics that drive efficiency across the organization.
This is a highly strategic role combining business unit ownership with hands-on operational execution. You should have strong analytical skills, experience scaling operations, and a track record of driving results through meticulous operational excellence. This role is perfect for someone with consulting or banking experience who has transitioned to startup operations, particularly in healthcare.
This role is full-time. We’re looking for someone who is NYC based for this role, and is open to coming to the office 3 days a week.

What you'll do…

Lead Our Services Business: Own the P&L and day-to-day operational execution of our revenue recovery services. This includes developing staffing models, creating detailed SOPs, implementing performance tracking systems, managing customer onboarding workflows, and ensuring we hit our quality and financial targets.
Drive Operational Excellence: Ensure flawless service delivery execution by building and maintaining detailed operational playbooks, quality assurance processes, and performance management systems. Partner with RCM teams to manage customer implementations, oversee biller training and performance, and maintain service delivery standards.
Build & Leverage Financial Models: Build and maintain sophisticated financial models, KPI dashboards, and reporting infrastructure. Use data to develop deep insights into unit economics, operational efficiency, and performance trends to guide strategic decisions. You'll be the go-to person for all data-driven analysis across the business.
Project Management & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Plan, manage, and execute complex operational projects across teams. Work closely with RCM, GTM, and engineering stakeholders to ensure seamless execution. You'll be the person who makes sure nothing falls through the cracks and all moving pieces come together on time.
Build Operational Infrastructure: Establish core operational systems across finance, HR, workforce management, and service delivery. Create scalable processes and detailed documentation that will grow with us as we expand.
Scale Team Performance: Design and implement systems for hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management of our service delivery team. Build the foundation for scaling efficiently while maintaining quality standards. You'll build and implement these processes from scratch, figuring out how to tackle new challenges and establishing systems as needed to help make the team more effective.
Champion Process Optimization: Use data to identify opportunities for automation and efficiency improvements. Work closely with our product and engineering teams to translate manual processes into scalable solutions. You love finding the inefficiencies and building systems to fix them.

We’d love to hear from you if…
